Relocating employees and families face different challenges based on their destination.  Our report focuses on those critical issues.

We continue to see Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam growing as expatriate destinations, accompanied by the challenges of decreasing availability and increasing costs.  Rental rates in Kuala Lumpur have increased 20% this year and in Vietnam rental rates are up between 15 – 10% over last year.  Korea continues to experience housing shortages, and the availability of international school placements in Bangkok has become challenging.

Singapore’s new COMPASS system has increased fairness, and the online application system introduced earlier this year in Vietnam seems to have worked out the kinks that have caused delays in the visa approval process to date.  More attention is paid to local labor market testing and the local / expat employee mix in several locations.
